  3. History of Landmarks • Mark Border Line of Territory • Deut. 19:14 – shall not move neighbor’s landmark • Cursed For Removing It • Deut. 27:17 • The Results of Moving the Landmark • Confusion • Error • God’s Wrath – Hosea 5:10

Spiritual Application • We Must Not Depart From God’s Word • The Bible is God’s clear landmark (Gal. 1:6-12) • Scripture is God’s directive (2 Tim. 3:16-17) • Song – “Ancient Words” • V1 – Holy words long preserved for our walk in this world; they resound with God’s own heart; O let the ancient words impart. Words of life, words of hope give us strength, help us cope; In this world, where-e’er we roam, Ancient words will guide us home. • V2 – Holy words of our faith, Handed down to this age, Came to us through sacrifice; O heed the faithful words of Christ! Holy words long preserved For our walk in this world. They resound with God’s own heart; O let the ancient words impart. • Chorus – Ancient words, ever true, changing me and changing you. We have come with open hearts; O let the ancient words impart.

  5. Spiritual Application • Must Not Depart From God’s Word • Must Not Add To Or Take Away From It • Rev. 22:18-19 • Yet this is what many try to do • Must Not Substitute Anything For It • Isaiah 5:20 – we cannot create a backwards morality

Landmarks of Custom • Some Customs Should Be Changed • If they are wrong • If they are no longer effective • Some Should Not • If nothing better, leave them • If anything better, move them • Principles Do Not Change • God’s Word does not change • Hold firm to traditions in the word (Titus 1:9; Col. 2:7) • Plan of salvation • We have no business changing Godly principle

Landmarks of the Church • Primary Obedience to the Gospel • The plan of salvation – hear, believe, repent, confess, be baptized • Standard of Christian Character • Gal. 5:16-24; Rom. 12:1-2; Eph. 4:22; 5:1-10 • Stand in the Ancient Path • Jeremiah 6:16 – walk in the ancient paths • Contend For the Faith • Jude 3; 1 Cor. 15:58 – “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord…”
