  1. Writing Homeroom Prep 2010-2011

  2. Do you know what figurative language is? It’s a great way of making the reader get a better idea or picture of what you are trying to say!

  3. For example, some of the most common are: • Similes – make a comparison using “like” or “as” (You are as quiet as a mouse.) • Metaphors – make a comparison without “like” or “as” (You are a night owl.) • Idioms – don’t mean exactly what they say (He has butterflies in his stomach.) • Proverbs – give advice about daily life (Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.)

  4. Think you can figure out some examples of figurative language? For each picture in the slides that follow, write in your homeroom prep notebook what you think the expression means. Well, here we go…… Get ready… get set… gooooooooo!
