  2. THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CONTINUUM • Sport is at the top end of the continuum • It is the opposite to play • Taking into consideration what you know about play, what theoretical elements do you think outline sport.

Definitions • Sportsmanship – playing to the rules of the game with a concept fair play e.g. a batsman accepting an LBW even if it was unnoticed by the umpire. • Gamesmanship – playing within the rules of the game, but playing them to your advantage e.g. you are winning during extra time so you time waste & kick the ball out of touch.

  7. Task • Is chess a sport? • Taking into consideration the characteristics of a sport make a table to determine whether or not chess is considered to be a sport.

  10. PPP5 Homework • Draw and label the performance pyramid giving examples what sort of people can be found at each level and what level of skill they have. • Chart your progress through the pyramid from when you 1st started to what you have achieved to date.
