  1. How a BeanSeed Grows into a Plant Exit By Casey Davis, Amanda Johnson, Heather White

  2. Main Lobby Seed • Once the seed is planted, a bean seed will soon grow and become a bean plant. • After being planted is given water. • Once watered the shell of the seed softens nutrients are allowed to enter the seed of the plant.

  3. Main Lobby Root Emerges • In the middle stages of a bean plants growth the hard outer shell of the seed splits open and roots start to form. • The roots start to grow down into the soil to help the plant get the food it needs to grow. • The first root (called the radicle) pokes through the seed coat and grows downward. • The plant continues to get nutrients through the soil and water which makes the plant grow and sprout to the surface of the soil.

  4. Main Lobby Stem Emerges • The root grows, and the part near the seed pokes through the soil - it will be the stem. • The stem is like the backbone for the plant. • Once the seed sprouts a stem on the surface of the soil the plant is now free to grow with all the basic elements it needs (water, soil, light).

  5. Main Lobby First Leaves Emerge • The first true leaves emerge from between the cotyledons. • Cotyledons are the structures that form the leaves before the emerge. • The leaves also help draw in moisture to the plant. • They also draw in sun light to give the plant the nutrients it needs to grow.

  6. Main Lobby The Plant • The stem straightens out and the shoot sprouts leaves. • Then the stem and the roots will continue to grow until you have a strong and healthy plant.
