  1. Seminar Questionnaire Data Results from April MERU questionnaire http://meru-urem.ca/questionnaire.html

  2. Questionnaire • Web-based; unlinked (by invitation only); anonymous response (no identifying information) • 7 Responses • Five topics organized as 3-point Lickhert-scale questions and open-ended Comments • Presentation • Duration, Level of interactivity, Discussion time, Comments* • Room • Size, Comfort, Equipment, Comments* • Food and Beverage • Amount, Variety, Type, Comments* • Advertizing • Poster design, Poster information, Website information, Email information, Advance warning, Comments* • Other thoughts and ideas* * open-ended that offered opportunity for written response

  3. Questionnaire - Presentation • Duration • Level of interactivity • Discussion time • Comments Long Enough Too Short Enough Not Enough Long Enough Not Enough • Need more informal time with speaker. • Just getting everyone together is a challenge so when we get there it would be great to have enough time to talk about peoples work and make more of a connection. • The presentations have been excellent. I really appreciate the time and initiative taken (both the presenters and the organizers) to offer such rich opportunities. • It's not so much that the discussion time was insufficient as it wasn't really used well. That's everybody's fault but I think better facilitation would help.

  4. Questionnaire - Room • Size • Comfort • Equipment • Comments Right Right Right • The rooms have been fine. My preference is 475 or 477 since they seem to allow the audience to interact more easily (a horseshoe) instead of a room where everyone is facing the front.

  5. Questionnaire - Food Not Enough • Amount • Variety • Type • Comments Right Too Much Not Enough Right Right Too Heavy • Nice to have variety of food and drink. What about sandwiches, or cheese and dip tray • I think having food is really important in encouraging people to come, interact and stay a while. • The snacks have been great. A tasty treat is always appreciated. • I liked the food, but there was too much for the number of participants. Smaller cocktail type stuff might work better with more variety.

  6. Questionnaire - Advertizing • Poster Design • Poster Information • Web Information • Email Information • Advance Warning Boring Right Too Much Right (3/7) Right Right Not Enough (6/7) Right

  7. Questionnaire – Advertizing (II) • Comments • Bigger text and maybe slightly less. I'd say 2 weeks ahead of time • Maybe a little larger poster with perhaps a little less text - but in general I think they are fine. Advance warning for MERU members is great - ie. having the schedule for the term is REALLY helpful. I am not sure if the advance warning for others is early enough. • The advertising has been going a 1000 times better that it was before. [Posters should be…] 11x17 colour page for each floor in LMX, … have large text, a clean design and only basic information that invites people to the website for more. The posters should mostly entice students since they will be the bulk of any audience so they don't need to a complete history and theoretical stance for the presenter.

  8. Questionnaire – Thoughts & Ideas • great job! • Way to go! • … can see the community building day by day, week by week. Very nice to see the teacher ed having access to the activities along with grad students, members of school community etc. I think we have a good thing building. • … I would also love to hear more about the great work going on within our University. Perhaps other faculty members even outside MERU could be invited speakers on topics such as learning theories, complexity and other aspects of teaching & learning. • Events that occur twice a month are ideal for me since they are frequent enough to foster community and collegiality, as well as be managable to organize & attend. • Let's have some more methodology oriented seminars in addition. Such seminars would have broader appeal since almost any methodology has applications outside math education research. Let's ask someone who is using a really innovative collection or analysis technique to come and promote in the intro to research and methodology classes.
