But you cannot love without giving.” Martin Luther (1483-1546), pioneer of the reformation: “People go through three conversions: their head, their heart and their pocketbook...Unfortunately, not all at the same time.” Intro: an issue of the heart (6:19-24)

  7. 6:7-8, 26, 30, 32; 7:11 God is our Provider (Yahweh Yireh) As provider, he is also owner! He does just provide, God is GENEROUS! It starts with seeing who god is...

  8. Faith not fear (or worry) - 6:25-32, 7:7-11 Everything we have is HIS! who god is sets the principles... “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.” Deut 8:17,18

  10. TRUST “Give to God what’s right, not what’s left.” • GRATITUDE “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” James 1:17 • GENEROSITY Our response?

  11. “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” 1 tim 6:17-19

  12. “Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Cor 9:6-7

  13. “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures for ever.’ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” 2 Cor 9:8-11
