PUBLIC PARTICIPATION/EDUCATION IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE • COLLECTION: • Advertise collection service • Notify citizens of special collections of bulky items • Notify citizens of special collection events-HHW, e-scrap etc. • Hold public meetings on collection • Publish newspaper articles on collection • Develop and distribute flyers on collection • Notify public of all permitted haulers • Discuss collection in public schools • DISPOSAL: • Advertise bid invitation for disposal service • Notify public of public meetings on disposal • Advertise a new disposal facility • Publish newspaper articles on disposal requirements/options • Develop and distribute flyers to the general public on the importance of disposal • Provide educational information to school students on disposal • Conduct classroom activities on disposal • Develop a Host Agreement, if desired, if hosting a contained or greater than one acre Construction Demolition and Debris Landfill

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION/EDUCATION • IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE • RECYCLING/REDUCTION: • Advertise location and hours of recycling center • Develop and distribute flyers to general public and in schools about recycling • Hold public information meetings on recycling and opportunities • Hold public information meetings on waste reduction and smart shopping • Conduct educational lessons on recycling and reduction in schools • Utilize the local media to promote recycling and waste reduction • Have monthly call-in on recycling and waste reduction on morning shows • Conduct meetings in magisterial districts on recycling and waste reduction • Use Extension office resources to educate public on recycling and waste reduction • Provide educational materials to schools and public

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION/EDUCATION • IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE • OPEN DUMPS/LITTER: • Develop and distribute informational sheets about littering and open dumping • Make a report to the public on the cost of littering • Make a report to the public on the cost of illegal open dumping • Encourage the public to report illegal open dumping • Promote the reporting of littering activities by the public • Conduct classroom activities in schools on littering • Conduct classroom activities in schools on open dumping • Utilize the local media to inform local citizens on littering • Encourage participation in Commonwealth Cleanup Week • ENFORCEMENT: • Advertise court news in local paper regarding enforcement of mandatory collection, littering, and illegal open dumping • Prepare and distribute flyers on the penalty for illegal open dumping and littering • Provide information to students in schools • Use local media to discuss the enforcement of solid waste laws and ordinances • Publish portions of the ordinances and the penalties in local paper • SITING: • Advertise new facilities • Conduct public meetings on new facilities • Advertise changes in siting ordinance/procedures
