  2. Where Can We Find Mountains? • Most mountain environments are found in the Asian continent, in Nepal, which has the highest mountain “Mt Everest”, China, and Japan. • Argentina in South America and Switzerland in Europe, also have mountain communities.

  3. What is the Climate and Weather Like? • Mountains have much wetter climates than the surrounding flat land. • Some mountains reach higher than the clouds. At this altitude the extreme cold and high winds cause blizzards.

  4. What Animals Live There? • There is a variety of animals that live in the mountains. • Llamas, cougars, snow leopards, pandas are some mammals that live in mountains. • Bald eagles, red tailed hawks and ravens are mountain birds • Reptiles such as mountain king snakes, and alligator lizards are also found

  5. How Do Mountains Effect the Way People Live? • Mountains are home to approximately one-tenth of the world’s people • The people of mountain communities have larger hearts and lungs to breathe the thin air at high altitudes. • Road and railway building is difficult in mountainous areas. • Dams are built to prevent flooding and provide water for farming and energy.
