  1. LAL Site Report Michel Jouvin LAL / IN2P3 jouvin@lal.in2p3.fr

  2. General News • LAL has a new director : Guy Wormser • Strong support to GRID effort • GRID group officially « blessed » • Leader : Cal Loomis (permanent position) • Formerly G. Wormser • Coordination of LAL grid related efforts • Not EGEE/LCG only : XtremWeb (collabarotion with CS) • Computing engineers AND experiments members • Involved in GRIF project LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  3. 100 Go FC HDS 9570 9 TB Linux Experiments (60 CPUs) GRID Fram (50 CPUs) Alpha Experiments (8 CPUs) Electronic CAD (20 Sun CPUs) HDS 9570 3 TB Xterm Mac (100) PC (300) Main Resources DS20 LSF Cluster • NFS • SMB • Appletalk • www • Mail • Print DS20e Gb Ethernet 100 Mb 10 Mb LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  4. Main HW Changes • 20 dual Opteron 2,2Ghz installed • 1/3 for GRIF T2 • 6TB installed, 9TB on order • ½ for GRIF T2 • 2 Linux machines connected to SAN (QL2340) • Single attachment, plan to look for path failover later • SRM based SE using LCG DPM (2 disk servers) • SATA extension to HDS 9570V • Acceptable cost : 12 k€ for 4,5 TB (Raid5) • Very easy and flexible integration in current LAL infrastructure LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  5. OS Updates • Scientific Linux everywhere (3.0.5) • Currently installed on all new machines (i386 or amd64, 32 bits) • Upgrade of RH 7.2/9 machines (25) by the end of year • Will be done with Quattor (fresh installation) • Deploying LCG UI on all LAL physics servers (20) • Done with Quattor : easy to install and maintain • VOMS with local VOs for non LHC users LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  6. Quattor • In production for GRID and non GRID machines • Easy and flexible sharing of configuration information, removing duplication • Upgrade SL 3.0.4  3.0.5 done with Quattor • Currently reinstalling all pre-Quattor machines • Original CDB not used, replaced by SVN + http • Starting multi-sites usage for GRIF • 1 day Quattor tutorial held Sept. 30th • DAPNIA : ½ day to setup specific configuration and install 2 test nodes • Common configuration database, 1 Quattor server/node LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  7. Collaborative Tools : SPIP • Web collaborative edition : SPIP • A « Content Management » solution • Collaborative/concurrent edition of Web pages • Individual authentication and privileges • Basic workflow • Easy site structure/navigation (re)organization • URLs independant of site structure • Forums • Look and feel customized through CSS • LAL implemented a Plone-like (http://grif.fr) and a CNRS-like (http://www.lal.in2p3.fr) look and feel • Used by several LAL groups • Main LAL Web site, GRIF Web site, LAL support LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  8. Collaborative Tools : Trac • Tools for project management integrating • A WiKi (based on MoinMoin) : http://projects.edgewall.com/trac • An issue tracker (trouble ticket system) • Ticket submission through Web or email • A roadmap manager based on milestones • A SVN browser • Very clean plug-in API (0.9+) : all main features are plug-ins • Same model as Eclipse : Trac core is just a plug-in manager • Cross reference between all types of information • Very attractive when you need documentation + action follow-up • SW development, computing operations, GRIF… LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  9. Collaborative Tools : Agenda • At the very beginning • LAL director wants to publish its agenda… • Web-based agenda sharing • Currently using phpICalendar • WebDAV upload/download of ICS files • Compatible with a lot of clients : Mac, Sunbird, Mulberry… • Interoperable with CERN CDS Agenda and (InDiCo) • Difficult sharing between multiple writers (file granularity) LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005

  10. Windows Infrastructure • IN2P3 forest still very successfull • 12 labs in production • Move of LAL AD domain to IN2P3 forest still delayed : lack of manpower • Running well, management cost very low… • New machines installed with WXP SP2 • No migration plan for WXP SP1 • Can be done on demand with SMS • Antivirus : successful move to McAfee • + : MSI deployment LAL Site Report - HEPix - SLAC 2005
