  1. Teachers Matter NOVEMBER 18, 2011

  2. Our Goals Today: 1. To update where we are in the QLE process. 2. To continue the QLE discussion with a focus around the 4 key elements.

  3. QUALITY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT Part 1: Background Information Part 2: The Core/ Heart of the model Part 3: The 4 Key Components Part 4: The Cultural Conditions

  4. What has been done since we last met? FEEDBACK FROM: • AISI – October 4 (background, core & cultural conditions) • Special Ed Liaisons – October 18 (background & cultural conditions) • ADCOS October 19, 31 (background & 4 Key Components); November 16 (exemplars)

  5. WHAT’S CHANGED? • BACKGROUND SECTION: • Unclear • Why are we doing this? • How do we know that we will be “all in” in the eventual implementation of this model? • RESPONSE: • Clarification of background section

  6. WHAT’S CHANGED? • THE CORE: • Where does this section reflect a genuine interest and caring for students? • Where is the connection to parents? • RESPONSE: • Refinement of Core Section

  7. WHAT’S CHANGED? • THE CULTURAL CONDITIONS: (from AISI feedback) • Why does literacy have only a one-liner as a description? It needs to be explained further • Need to put “Culture of” in front of each element • Does technology belong? • Does inclusion belong?– this is what we do! • RESPONSE: • Addressed first 2 concerns • Did not address technology or inclusion as AISI is the only group who has provided feedback at this time

  8. GREAT DEBATE: • 2 Statements are still under debate: • “Highly effective teachers are the key to student learning and success.” (vs teaching) • The teacher makes intentional decisions in planning for instruction in order to make it impossible for students to disengage. (impossible??)

  9. OUR GOAL: Engage with the 4 Key Elements

  10. Our Process Today: 9:30 – 12:00 • Focus group format • Rotating between 4 facilitators • Debrief with original group

  11. FIND YOUR GROUP

  12. NEXT STEPS: • Feedback Continues • Resources on the wiki: • See facilitation section • video link, background section - ADCOS • Conversations with staff • Help is available – Learning Services Coordinators, COLT members
