Summary • *Patterning essential for students to find and match effectively – building patterns within and around • *vocal modeling- evidence suggests unaccompanied leads to stronger pitch accuracy, closest to children’s vocal tone (ie- less vibrato, falsetto, softer) • * Opportunities to sing individually with patterns – research finds there is greater accuracy than in a group (though positioning a child having trouble matching on outside edge of students who match very well helps!) • *Movement and visuals can help students: access head voice, find breath support, get rid of tension that contribute to physical reasons for not matching pitch. • *Be flexible in meeting children within their range- sometimes singers can match an interval, but not the pitch level. Gradually move the pitch level from where they match well to the level of the song. • *Using instruments to reinforce patterns can help kinesthetic learners as well.
