General Differences between Traditional & Modern Clothing -Traditional Russian: • clothing made with symbolism in mind, • meant to display a person's status or gender. • clothing was also made to allow for movement & work. -These days: • clothing styles are more edgy & flashy • Trendy Russian men & women tend to dress as though they're going out on the town, choosing high heels and leather over sneakers and T-shirts.

Tradition Vs Modern Traditional: Sarafan • Designed to highlight Russian women's dignity. • Different colors show love for beauty & ethnic diversity. • Red fabric cloth is considered to be the most beautiful • married women's and young girl's clothes differed only for details, decoration, and color.   3. Traditional VS. Modern Modern • Russian women wear long skirts & blouses, or dresses with high heels to stay feminine • More trendy to outside visitors • More elegant & professional. • Russian clothing is now more influenced by American clothing

Superstitions 1.In Russia, people never mend clothes or sew a button on a piece of clothing while wearing it – those who do that will “sew up” their mind and memory. 2.On examination day, do not wear anything new. 3. If you wear clothes (such as an undershirt) inside out, you will get beaten. 4. If you wear a shirt backwards, you will become acquainted with someone new.

This is not what common Russians wore. • Many clothes made in France out of French silk • Jewels from Kremlin Treasury
