  2. Wireless Enumeration

  3. Wireless Enumeration 1 NetStumbler – Technical aspects Category (Networking/Connectivity) • One of the wireless security tools that allows you to detect Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) using 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. • “Beggarware” software – free to install and use it but consider to donate money if you like and use it for future development, web hosting and other costs. References: Download NetStumbler software NetStumbler 0.4.0 Installer Release Notes (PDF) Review from PC Magazine

  4. NetStumbler It has many uses: • Verify that your network is set up the way you intended. • Find locations with poor coverage in your WLAN. • Detect other networks that may be causing interference on your network. • Detect unauthorized "rogue" access points in your workplace. • Help aim directional antennas for long-haul WLAN links. • Use it recreationally for WarDriving

  5. NetStumbler

  6. Wireless Enumeration 2 Kismet – Technical aspects Category (Networking/Connectivity) • Is a 802.11 Layer2 wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system. • It will work with any wireless card which supports raw monitoring (rfmon) mode, and can sniff 802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g traffic. References: Download Kismet software Kismet Readme file

  7. Kismet • identifies networks by passively collecting packets and detecting standard named networks • detecting (and given time, decloaking) hidden networks, & • infering the presence of nonbeaconing networks via data traffic.

  8. Kismet

  9. Wireless Enumeration 3 AirSnort– Technical aspects Category (Networking/Connectivity) A wireless LAN (WLAN) tool which recovers encryption keys. It operates by passively monitoring transmissions, computing the encryption key when enough packets have been gathered. References: Download AirSnort software AirSnort Homepage AirSnort FAQ

  10. Wireless Enumeration 4 Airopeek– Technical aspects Category (Networking/Connectivity) • provides network engineers with the expert diagnostics they need to deploy, secure, and troubleshoot wireless LANs • covers the full spectrum of wireless LAN management requirements, including site surveys, security assessments, client troubleshooting, WLAN monitoring, remote WLAN analysis, and application layer protocol analysis.
