  1. Tips to perform outstandingly in a university interview If you are thinking of applying to a university, you must be wondering which university courses might require you to do an interview. Courses that usually require students to sit for an interview include Medicine, Management, Architecture, Engineering, Literature, and a few more. STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and social science applications are as well likely to include a face-to-face interview. Some universities, however, might even include face-to-face interviews for courses that are in high demand, such as software engineering. Cambridge and Oxford do not practice offering seats to applicants without conducting a thorough interview, no matter how good the grades are or what the course is. They will call you for an interview once your application is accepted. Final admission depends upon your overall performance in the written entrance exam, face-to-face interview, plus previous year’s grades. How should you prepare for a university interview? Being invited to sit an interview is the result of an outstanding application, however, you will still be competing against hundreds of remarkably competitive applicants, hence it is important that you are well-prepared and most importantly, confident. Follow these tips to perform well in your next university entrance interview: Prepare straightforward answers for common questions Over-performing or exaggerating your answers is never advisable. Cambridge and Oxford interviewers will want you to answer some tricky questions, for example, “Why do you want to study Economics”, quickly and naturally, because it is understood that you know pretty well what has motivated you to choose the course at the first place. Keep it short, precise and reasonable. Re-read all your personal statements

  2. You may be asked about a few of the things you included in your application. Thus, familiarizing yourself with what you have included in your application would be a smart move. Consult with your school tutors to check your UCAS reference as well – some questions might already have been answered in the reference context by your teacher. Be sure to show up at all costs You will not be given a seat if you choose not to show up at the interview. In case of any medical emergency, you can, although, request a date rescheduling. This is very important as interview places are often limited in universities like Cambridge and Oxford. Cancelling at the last minute would only indicate your sluggish and uncommitted attitude to the university administrators. Always bring additional supportive documents, they might be asked! You may be asked to carry a work portfolio if you are applying to a creative arts course. Do not forget to bring it along, because a good percentage of your interview may be based on your work portfolio. There could be substantial discussion and analysis of your work by the interviewer. Take a summer course in the subject you intend to study at the university Taking an advanced summer school course before you apply to a university will make your application process easy and convincing. An additional degree in the subject that you intend to study further at the university level will convince the interviewers of your commitment, dedication and knowledge. So, enrol yourself in a good and reputable summer school before applying to the top universities.
