  1. Easy and practical tips to choose the right university or college post high school Choosing a university or college is not as easy as choosing a new phone or picking your favourite food from the menu. Picking out which university to apply to can be stressful! With dozens of choices for universities across the nation as well as overseas offering four-year degree courses, it seems difficult to decide where to start or what you should be seeking. There’re many ways to select a university. You can select one based on the location, which university is the best in terms of providing comprehensive higher education, would you like to do your further studies abroad, or you can find the best university based on the subject you are interested in. The following are the key factors to take into account when choosing a university that fits your academic expectations right – Understand your long-term goals It is often assumed once you graduate high school, you “will” go to college or university. However, you should not go just because you are expected to. You should go because you genuinely want to continue your studies and because this is the only way you can achieve your desired career. Make sure you know what you are going to study and how it’s going to help you go into the desired profession. Most regular high school years follow the same old traditional syllabus-centric teaching approach, which means while students only target finishing up their courses, tutors put their efforts only to cover up the syllabus. There’s hardly any scope for the students to think beyond their syllabus and evaluate available career options. If you have a particular ‘job’ in mind and you wish to continue studying with it, plan to attend an advanced summer course before applying to a university. There are today, many summer schools, especially in the UK, providing university-level courses for university aspirants. This way, you’ll know if you must continue studying the same subject at the university and what are the associated job opportunities.

  2. Consider a major Not every college provides every major, hence before you apply, think about which subject you’re interested in and make a career out of it. You can, then decide which colleges match your academic interests and simply avoid applying to those that do not sit right with your expectations. Every college’s requirements are different, hence researching the requirements before applying will help determine if there’s a good chance for you to be accepted. Evaluate extracurriculars Remember that universities or colleges must not stick students to only tedious classroom lectures and terms. You love sports, do theatres, visit and learn about historical places; hence make sure your chosen university or college has these included in their extracurricular activities. Prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford and Harvard have the most innovative and state-of-the-art extracurricular activities. From taking students to visit historical places around the world to teaching them theatres and giving platforms for sports – the University of Oxford or Cambridge makes sure you receive an all-inclusive education. Ambitious students prefer attending summer courses before they apply to their chosen universities to gain an insight into what it's like to be studying at a university and what career options they might have once they successfully complete their courses. A quick recommendation – Attend Immerse Education, a university-level summer school that provides advanced courses on Architecture, Biology, Business Management, Chemistry, Computer Science, Creative Writing, Economics, Engineering, English Literature, History, Mathematics, Medicine and many more.
