  1. Book by Margaret Peterson Haddix Project by Derrick Shi January ARP Project (due at the end of January) The Missing: Book OneFound Warning: Do not push!!!

  2. About the Author • Margaret Peterson Haddix wrote many popular books for young adults, like the Shadow Children series • Graduate of Miami University (of Ohio, not Florida) • For many years, worked as a reporter for Indianapolis News • Teaches in Danville(Illinois) Community College • Lives in Columbus, Ohio

  3. Setting • Airport: 12 years ago, a mysterious plane appeared out of nowhere at this location • Jonah’s neighborhood A cave which has a time travel base inside I repeat : Do not push!!!

  4. Characters • Jonah: He is a 13 year old boy who has been adopted. Like Chip, he has from the past and was brought here via time travel. Jonah knows he was adopted, but thinks this is of little importance • Chip: He is 13 years old, but like Jonah, he was adopted and from a different time period. Chip didn’t know, or care that was adopted at first. Has a crush on Katherine. • Katherine: Jonah’s stepsister who is 12 years old. • Angela: A worker for the now bankrupted Skytrails; 13 years ago, she saw a mysterious plane land at the airport. Skytrails still pays her for her “disabilities”. That is, she’s insane. • JB: Short for Janitor Boy, as Katherine calls him. JB tries to help the kids • E: Short for Enemy. The E is a group of people who say they try to save kids from different time periods, but their intentions don’t seem to be good…

  5. Plotline • 13 years ago, Angela notices that an odd plane enters the airport. The plane had no pilot, but instead, babies! • 13 years later, Chip moves to Jonah’s neighborhood. They became friends. • All of a sudden, they receive a letter saying “ YOU ARE ONE OF THE MISSING” Then, another letter arrives. It says that “they” are out to get them. • Chip, Jonah and Katherine do research and figure out that Chip and Jonah came from a plane built in the future. • They try to ask people, like Angela, how and what the plane is and who are they. • The kids get stuck in a cave with the E. The E try to identify the lost children, but JB and Angela try to save the kids. Then, Angela goes insane and aims her gun at Jonah. • JB uses a time travel device and takes Chip, Jonah and Katherine to 15th century England.

  6. Conflict Nooo! • Jonah, Chip and Katherine V.S. E: The E try to make money from “rescuing” children from the horror of the past, and “then undo the damage”. • JB V.S. E: JB tries to save the children from the E. • Jonah and Chip V.S. Themselves: Who are Jonah and Chip? Oh Brother!

  7. Any Resolutions??? • JB sends Chip, Jonah and Katherine to the 15th Century after the E’s plan is stopped. • Who are Jonah and Chip?

  8. Theme • The theme is to be persistent in doing research… • Also, you never know if a friend is really being an enemy. • Remember to choose wisely… (choose a shape)

  9. Book Review Book Review I think that this book is great. First, there’s a bit of suspense and mystery as the characters try to solve a mystery of their life. Second, part of this book reminds me of a time some people tricked others into trusting them. Lastly, I’m wondering about who Chip and Jonah really are. So go ahead, read this book!
