Purpose: Students to feel successful at reading.
Instruction: In the beginning, explain that noticing spelling patterns
can help students decode words. Model this concept. Read the top line.
Then, they read in a group or individually the words below. Listen,
and correct mistakes immediately, but gently. Later on, have the student control

Think of other words that rhyme with ___ ?
Use one or all of the words in a sentence, then share it with your shoulder buddy.
Pick out one word and ask students to think of a word that means the same thing as ___ . Share your answer.
Draw a picture of what you think of when you hear the word.
Write a short poem or song using the three rhyming words.
Put the three words in alphabetical order.
