  2. Overview • What is LORO? What is it for? Who is it for? • How do we use it for Beginners’ courses? • How do we inform & support tutors? • What do we need YOU to do?

  3. Current version of LORO is… • hosted by Southampton at http://loro.eprints.org • populated by appointed tutors with course team materials • still in development > phased introduction • soon to be migrated to the OU servers and integrated with SAMS log in (so that users go into their accounts automatically)

  4. What’s in it and who is it for? • Elluminate tutorial materials for tutors: Activity plans, powerpoints, whiteboards and images (png) • Sometimes Prep Docs for students – but these need to be in the Course Resources area of the course website (students don’t have access to LORO) • Later on, materials created by tutors

  5. Using LORO for beginners’ courses • Elluminate tutorial materials will be located in the Tutor Resources area of the Course Website • Elluminate tutorial materials for Unit 1 will be provided for tutors in the course website, and the rest of the material will be stored in LORO (link to LORO needs to be included). • See an example http://learn.open.ac.uk/mod/resourcepage/view.php?id=283106&direct=1

  6. Informing tutors about LORO • During course briefing (4 slides provided) • As part of Elluminate training sessions provided by regions/nations • Through LORO newsletter, information messages from LORO project, local staff development events, etc.

  7. (Sample slides for Course Briefings)LORO • Accessible through Tutor Resources area of the Course Website. • Tutorial materials for L19X (and you can also browse and download materials for all other languages and levels) • You will be able to store and share your own materials (if you want to) • Training materials and support available through the course website and tutor forum

  8. Supporting tutors using LORO • Instructions provided in Course Website and in LORO Help menu. • Hoping to recruit one peer supporter for each course who answers questions in the Tutor/AL Forum.

  9. What do we need YOU to do? Course Chairs • Hand over Elluminate tutorial material to LORO team promptly • Include information on LORO in Course Briefing or Elluminate training for tutors (slides provided)

  10. What do we need YOU to do? Course Managers • Create an “Elluminate tutorial materials” area in the Tutor Resources section of the course website (template provided). • Upload Elluminate tutorial materials for Unit 1 to Course website and include LORO link.

  11. What do we need YOU to do? Staff Tutors • Keep tutors informed about LORO. • Tell us about Staff Development events where we can talk to tutors about LORO (R04/R08 online, R02 & R07 presentations)
