If you are commendable enough to clear this test and get your desirable Indian Police Service, then you will have to take a one-year training course at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy located in Hyderabad. IPS Promotion Rules 1.Cadre posts shall not be kept in disuse or held in suspension for a period of more than six months without The Central Government’s permission. Police. The IPS salary has a pay band 3 somewhere between 15600 – 39,100) with Grade Pay of 5400. As a matter of fact, ASP is a probation phase post during which time the officer gets to learn from seniors about how the police systems operate at a local level. Senior Time Scale After the probation ends, the officer will have the Senior Time Scale in their fifth year of service. At that point, the officer would be designated as an additional police superintendent in the district. If he serves in any city police station, the post would be rendered by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. In the senior time scale, the rate of pay is 6600. Junior Administrative Grade After collecting some experience on how to do handle policing for nine years, the officer will be promoted to the Junior Administrative Grade (JAG). At that point, he or she mostly does supervisory work. They rarely go to a crime or trouble spot. JAG officers hold the title of Superintendent of Police (SP) in the districts. They have the post of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the police in the police department. During the JAG, the salary of the IPS officer is 7600. Selection Grade In their city, the hiring officer holds the position of additional commissioner of police. The Grade Selection Officer also enjoys higher pay scales. In SG the pay band is shifted from PB3 to PB4 (37,400 – 67,000). The grade pay also moves up to 8700 which earlier was 7600. Super Time Scale After representing the police department for 14 years, the IPS is designated to the Super Time Scale. Officers of this size hold the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in the States. Officers holding the Super Time Scale could be commissioners of minor city police departments. The grade pay increases to 8900 in PB4. Conclusion The IPS is not a really easy task. The burden is immense. One should be able to handle the pressure. There will be pressure from seniors, other bureaucrats and politicians who will want to bend the officer for their own small profits.
