  1. THE BASIC PARTS OF A ROLLER DOOR

  2. The Basic Parts of a Roller Door ◦ Unlike most other types of doors, a garage roller door is made up of several individual parts that work together to allow the door to roll up and down smoothly. This system also allows for a door leaf to be unwound for the purpose of closing the door opening. The basic parts of a roller door include a door leaf, a winding roller, drums, a tensioning device, a carrier, and a motor. ◦ The tensioning device is positioned near the bearing blocks of the winding roller. The tensioning device is a pair of rotatably mounted tensioning rollers. This mechanism provides the door with a tensioning force which is adjusted by a tension spring. ◦ The tensioning rollers are positioned in an optimal working range. The drum of the traction member is a conical shape and is shaped so that it can be adapted to the diameter of the door leaf. The deflecting rollers in the traction member serve to provide a space-saving arrangement for the traction spring.

  3. The Basic Parts of a Roller Door ◦ The second traction member is guided over two tensioning rollers in an S-shaped path. This is done to compensate for the difference in the path of the traction member. In some systems, the pawl on the end wall of the second drum is pivotable about a stationary pivot. The weight of the idle roller acts as a traction force on the drum. ◦ The ratchet wheel is rotationally fast with the shaft. This allows for greater shortening of the traction member. In some systems, both ends of the traction member are connected to the lintel of the door opening. In these types of systems, the lintel is also able to act as a tensioning device. ◦ In some systems, the pawl on both drums is pivotable about axes. This permits the entrainment of the second drum through the ratchet wheel. In other systems, the pawl is connected to a device that is normally released. This can be replaced by a counterweight. In some models, the pawl is slid up and down by a spring. These systems are referred to as sliding door wheels.
