Last year schools across the Archdiocese raised £56,328.99. Ask your mum, dad, nan and grandad about the Good Shepherd Appeal. How did you help the Good Shepherd last year?

  5. Why is the Good Shepherd Appeal collection during Lent? The Season of Lent is from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. 7. What challenges did families face when the Good Shepherd Appeal started in 1903? Do people live like this today? Is being poor just about not having any money? The Good Shepherd Appeal was started because there were so many poor and needy people. Father Nugent saw a lot of people without any shoes and who were hungry and dirty. They did not have a home to sleep in and they huddled together on the streets in the winter to try and keep warm.
