  1. Le Conditionnel or, saying what you WOULD do, in French...

  2. How do I form the Conditional? • Start with the stem for the Future Tense. -er & -ir - infinitive, -re infinitive minus -e • Add the endings of the Imperfect Tense: -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient Exemples: je parlerais je finirais je vendrais

  3. How about irregulars? • Irregulars also have the same stem as for the Future, plus the endings of the Imperfect.

  4. When do I use it? • Use the Conditional to mean “would...” when there is a condition on the action - NOT when it’s a past habit. Je voudrais une glace (si possible). I’d like an ice cream (if possible). • The French Conditional is parallel to the English in “if” constructions. For example: If I had the money, I would go to France. Si j’avais l’argent, j’irais en France.

  7. Si... ...nous dînerions en ville. ...il serait de retour à 6h. ...tu pourrais voir ce film. ...elle enverrait la lettre. ...nous le ferions. ...je verrais mes amis. ...elle n’aurait pas faim. ...ils resteraient chez eux. If... Traduisez...

  8. I would write a letter, but... We would have to work. She would like to see us. Would you go by plane? He’d buy the tickets, if... I would be happy... They would come, if... He would pay me, if... She would eat... I would have more money, if... Express in French...
