INTRODUCTION Neurofeedback or Neurotherapy is not a one sized fits all approach. There are many different forms of neurofeedback and biofeedback that we can use. When we make a Brain Mapping, we are able to see the unique patterns in your brain and identify what patterns are most likely responsible for the symptoms or condition you have. As there are many different forms of neurofeedback, this clinical picture of your brain functioning will help us to recommend which type of neurofeedback you are most likely to benefit from.
CASE EXAMPLE 1 The following client was reporting symptoms of excess anxiety and sleep disturbance. Without a BrainMap, we would just be guessing at what would benefit them the most. What the Brain Mapping shows is an excess of frontal alpha. This can be associated with depression and/or anxiety. Upon further inquiry, the client also reported difficulties with concentrating and that they felt the front of their brain was asleep or in a fog.
CASE EXAMPLE 2 The following client was reporting severe symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks, along with migraine headaches. Again without a BrainMap, we would just be guessing at what would benefit them the most. This client’s BrainMap showed an excess of beta and high-beta, especially at the back of their brain. This was the most likely cause of their anxiety. As their BrainMap also showed that they had problems with Coherence (the degree to which different brain areas are communicating with one another), we used swLoreta for their training. swLoreta is the newest and most advanced form or Loreta neurofeedback, able to work at the deepest layers of the brain.
