  2. Social media Social media is media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable communication techniques.

  3. Tools of Social Media Text, audio, video, images, podcasts, and other multimedia communications.

  4. Examples According to Kaplan and Haenlein there are six different types of social media: 1- collaborative projects (e.g.Wikipedia). 2-blogs and microblogs (e.g. Twitter).

  5. 3- content communities (e.g. Youtube). 4- social networking sites (e.g. Facebook). 5- virtual game worlds (e.g. World of Warcraft). 6- virtual social worlds (e.g. Second Life).

  6. Social Media Websites 1- Social Bookmarking. (Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Simpy) Interact by tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by other people. 2- Social News. (Digg, Propeller, Reddit) Interact by voting for articles and commenting on them.

  7. Using Technology in classroom 1- Students use YouTube, Skype, and Facebook for some collaborative work to create projects, exchange information …etc

  8. 2- Students use technology to work individually. They use PowerPoint, word, and video to create the projects, present ideas

  9. 3- Social Networking. (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM) Interact by adding friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and having discussions. 4- Social Photo and Video Sharing. (YouTube, Flickr) .

Effects According to a report by Nielson 1- In the U.S. alone, total minutes spent on social networking sites has increased 83 percent year-over-year. 2- In fact, total minutes spent on Facebook increased nearly 700 percent year-over-year . 3- It is growing from 1.7 billion minutes in April 2008 to 13.9 billion in April 2009, making it the No. 1 social networking site for the month.

  11. 4- The main increase in social media has been Facebook. 5- Approximately 100 million users access this site through their mobile phone. 6- According to Nielsen, global consumers spend more than 6 hours on social networking sites.

  12. Conclusion Social media has really made the world a smaller place, we can now do business with people from all over the world so much more easier and quicker than ever before. Social media is here to stay and you start learning how to use it to its full potential.
