PhD- Department Level • Unit of Analysis- Supervisor • One of the most important “mentor” in my research life • Aspiration to research, teaching and other aspects • Luck, but also require efforts • Support and sponsor of attending conferences • Unit of Analysis- Peers • One of the most important “support” during my PhD life • Someone can share the pain and excitement, really knows what it means…. • Intellectual challenges.. • Positive competition

  4. PhD- Department Level • Unit of Analysis- Department • One of the most important “resources” during my PhD life • Financial support • Department seminars (internal and visiting faculty) • Earn it, use it and appreciate it

PhD- IS Community as whole • Unit of Analysis- Senior Researcher • Intellectual aspiration • Career advisor • Co-author opportunities • Unit of Analysis- Peers • Someone can share the pain and excitement, really knows what it means….outside department • Friendship • Networking- research and career opportunities

PhD- With all these support • Completed my PhD within 4 years • Learnt how to research and teach • Co-author for paper and conferences • Attended ICIS Consortium 2000 • Attended numerous AMCIS, ECIS and ICIS conferences • Built up network of IS scholars as friends and mentors • Great leverage in job hunting

  8. During My Gap Years… • In 2004, decided to take a break and experience the “real world” and “organisation politics”. • In 2006, time to return… • Academic friends help to keep my publication and connection going while I was working..

Reflection on the journey so far… • Definitely hasn’t been easy.. • Be fortunate to build up a network of mentors and friends • Make effort and lot of hard work! • Utilise the resources • Never stop your research spirit! • Enjoy it and not let it run your life… • Still have plenty to learn, long way to go….
