  1. ANIMATED MOVIES It really bothers me that a vast majority of movie watchers in India do not take animated movies seriously. Animated movies can tell stories like no other medium can in the realm of filmmaking, and it is not always for kids, a gross misconception that really grinds my gears as I try and force my friends to come watch animated movies with me. You see, Animation allows movies to be pure. Impossible to shoot scene compositions in regular movies are possible and achievable in an animated feature or short film, even designing CGI that makes a movie look good requires the wonders of animation (although movies like Mad Max: Fury Road have shown us that while CGI is great and all, nothing can top practical effects in regular movies) The best part of an animated feature film is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t need to have complicated storylines and complex characters to tell an effective story, for example, last year’s successful Zootopia, a movie which I highly recommend for both being a fun watch and having a message of tolerance and acceptance towards the fellow human, had a simplistic plot with great and simple characters (the rabbit was named Judy Hopps, because rabbits hop, see? Simple) and even managed to include jokes only the parents of the kids going to the movies, and people like me who enjoy watching animated films will understand, like the Godfather joke. Here at IACG, we understand the importance of animated movies for our children and for adults who still are children at heart, and for those who can harness this medium to tell complex and mature stories. The Japanese mastered the art of telling mature stories through Anime, one of the finest examples of this being Ghost in the Shell, a story set in a cyberpunk future where humans are slowly losing their humanity by adding machine parts to themselves, and their souls are referred to as Ghosts while their bodies are called Shells. The movie deals with themes like the Cartesian Duality, what it means to be a human, the purpose of life and the future of the world and it’s use of AI technology. More importantly, it has a 3-full minute sequence of no dialogue and characters, but just showing the city in which the story of the movie happens, a city inspired by Hong Kong. The 3-minute sequence is supposed to reflect the internal conflict the protagonist of the story, Motoko Kusunagi, feels about her identity, she struggles between being a human and accepting her fate as a machine, and it is truly one of the finest anime movies ever made, full of philosophy and brain teasers to get you to start thinking. Animation is important, to tell stories a feature film cannot tell, to connect to audience that normally wouldn’t watch movies and to lead by example, our children who need amazing yet simple characters to idolize Stories in Video Games In Red Dead Redemption, you take on the role of John Marston, a former criminal who leaves his life behind for his family, only to have them kidnapped by government agents who want Marston to track down his old criminal gang members and shoot them down. When you hear this for the first time, it sounds pretty intriguing, intriguing enough to make you want to see where the story will go. Of course, Rockstar made a fortune with Red Dead Redemption, the story was universally praised by critics and players alike, the gameplay being a little clunky made no bearing on the legend status it has today, and while there are people who enjoyed it’s multiplayer, the game is

  2. universally recognized for it’s fantastic story, believable and realistic characters, and for being a one of its kind. There really isn’t any other game like Red Dead Redemption. The game is unique, it works when it clearly shouldn’t, and it makes us all wanting for more. Video Games have moved beyond the realm of simplistic jump-here-save-her storylines, today video games are the vehicle, where you, the player, are the driver and the experience and the story of the game, along with the gameplay, are the road on which you’re traveling. The journey of your protagonist in the game is your journey, their sadness is your sadness, their happiness and triumph is your own, and all this works because of the fantastic story that ties it together. At IACG, we work with our students to understand what makes a game tick for them and understand that while single player games with stories won’t satisfy everyone’s needs, especially those who prefer competing and playing with others, they have a place in the industry because of how important it is to tell stories, stories that connect with the player. The opening sequence of Naughty Dog’s immensely popular The Last of Us is one of the most emotional scenes for a game, Naughty Dog even takes the time to make the protagonist and the one he’s close to connect emotionally to the player before the opening sequence plays out, something that defines the protagonist’s actions over the next 20 years and finally culminating as the events of the games play out. Kodi Ramakrishna – Film Director First of all let me congratulate the Students & Mentors of IACG for the success of their short film “The Mystic Evolution”. He further added that multimedia is not just about drawing and delivering some technicalities but it also should have a creative approach and the students have IACG have proved that their creative vision is commendable. In the recent days we have been seeing many movies on natural calamities and earth destruction done by various Hollywood production houses; but after watching this short film done by Indian students I started believing that Indian artists and students can equally produce outputs as others with a very nominal budget. Every one watches movies and enjoys the essence of it, but it is also important to know the effort behind it and I really would like to appreciate the 24 students who have worked day and night to bring out such a short film. Creative directors like me would like to see much more projects with the same level of creativity and I believe academy like IACG should get its share of appreciation for giving us such good films. He finally concluded by saying that I am proud to say that we have such good students in the creative fraternity.
