  2. Chinese Colors • Wore Bright Colors • Each color meant something • Color determines their importance • Symbols on their clothes • The parents dressed their children in designs to protect them from ghosts.

  3. Emperors • High supreme rulers of China • Robes made out of fine silk • The only ones allowed to wear yellow

  4. Feet Wrapping • Feet are only about three inches long • Men thought it was attractive • Very painful process • So painful that they often cry for about 3 years • Walk with a hobble • Only rich girls get this treatment • Bones break with a cloth wrapped tightly Around the feet Feet Wrapping Feet Wrapping

  7. A Belief • People believed that ghosts could harm people especially kids • They dressed kids in designs to protect them

  8. Certain Clothes At Certain Times • For weddings usually wore red and gold long gowns • For other special occasions-jackets/coats over pants, or for women skirts • Wealthier people wore silk

  9. Kinds of Clothes • There are many different clothes • Made by cotton and silk • Some examples… • Kimonos (kind of like dresses) • Tunics (like robes)

  10. Peasant Clothing • The peasants often wore wool and ramie, since they could not afford silk. • They were only allowed to wear solid black and blue colors • Their clothing was often hand sewn by family members or friends. • Only could afford one or two outfits
