  3. When in doubt.... • Step back • Take a toddlers point of view • Birthmarks resembling “666” don’t mean a thing. • ‘They’ll probably grow out of it’ • Vive La difference!

  4. What makes toddlers tick?Know your enemy • Power without sense • Attention addicts • Self centeredness • Time-frames of goldfish • But these trademarks need not be negative if our expectations are tempered.

  5. ‘Normal’ behaviour • Crave Attention • Stubborn/Wilful • No sense • Seperation anxiety • Busy • Property blind • Messy • Inquisitive • Fickle • Constant interruptors • Sensitive to upset • Determined • Climbing • Restless • Food issues

  6. Toddler Triggers • Attention seeking • Jealousy/competition • Frustration • Separation anxiety • Upset and illness

  7. Tantrums • Hollywood performance based on frustration and lack of sense. • 1yr – 4yrs (when kids work out there are better ways to get what they want). • Tackling tantrums • Diversion • Ignore • Time out • Forgive and forget • Special cases..

  9. Summary • Toddlers challenging from 1yrs onwards as they wait to acquire sense and learn adult behaviours. • Difficulties can be lessened if a greater understanding/tolerance of behaviours can be achieved. • Creative time of life which should be celebrated!
