  1. RABYA ESBHANI The City School Darakhshan campus Jr. A Mathematics Grade IV

  2. LONG TERM GOALS • To adopt the 21st century teaching approaches and create an environment which makes the students life long learners with critical thinking

  3. SHORT TERM GOALS • To create interest of students in science by doing practical experiments in the class • to adopt the student centered approach so the learning of the students is not based on instructions given by the teacher but on their own thinking • To encourage students to participate in the class by giving them opportunities to show their understanding of different topics • To reward those who excelled in the grade through rewards and encouragement • To develop independence and confidence in students • To enhance the understanding of the students about the subject through real life examples • To take the creativity of the students one step higher by giving them opportunities in the form of projects and reports on science topics of their own choice

  4. Bloom’s taxonomy

  5. INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND TASKS: • I will give tasks to the students which will be done in groups ,so they can have the opportunities to learn from their peers and do some self teaching • I will ask them to gather information related to the chapter about to be done in the class so they can be well equipped about a particular concept beforehand • Projects and reports on different topics would be done on a monthly basis to constantly evolve the creativity of the students • I will create a science club in which a different group of students will prepare a presentation every week on a topic from their course and present it in front of their fellow students • I will reward the students on a weekly basis through verbal encouragement in front of others, certificates or badges with captions like “scientist of the week” written on them • Students would be asked to prepare different charts and posters for a science board which would be displayed outside each class according to the topic being currently done • Reinforcement of the topics which have already been taught would be done on a weekly basis to check the understanding of the students

  6. Challenges: The head mistress might not approve of the new teaching methods The parents might not be too keen about the projects being done so frequently and the extra time being utilized in the science activities Some students might not have internet facilities at home The time allocation of the subject is too less to cover so many activities Solution: A detailed report would be discussed about the benefits of this approach The parents would be given the report on how these opportunities have helped their child to blossom academically and personally I would personally sit with the student after school in the computer lab and help him/her to get the information I would request the head mistress to revise the timetable SOLUTIONS TO ANTICIPATED CHALLENGES

  7. TIME LINE Start with the activities and experiments related to the chapters Create awareness about the curriculum and introduction of the subject September August Aiming towards creating a student who can understand the subject, think critically and work independently Take assessments to check the understanding of the students and constant reinforcement of the topics covered Encourage students to gather information from the internet and develop this habit in them October December November

  8. RESOURCES • Science coordinators • Internet • Teacher’s guide • Microsoft word, spread sheets and multimedia • Resource books

  9. CONCLUSION The change in the teaching methods would further enhance the academic performance of the students. The added benefit of the 21st century approach would be the positive change in the personality of the students as they would be critical thinkers who work independently towards achieving their goals in life.
