  1. Article: Hurricanecreekdoodles.com COMMON HEALTH TROUBLES AND CARE TIPS FOR YOUR GOLDENDOODLE A dog is known to be the most the faithful animal in the world. And when they are one of the cute varieties, who can dare to ignore them. Yes, we are talking about one of the most beautiful, cuddly and the super popular dog breed - the Goldendoodle puppies. The Goldendoodle breed is a hybrid, a cross between two specific breeds - the Golden Retriever and the poodle. Over time, Goldendoodles have become popular for various good reasons. The positive personality traits are numerous - they are friendly intelligent and accepting in nature. They are generally healthy, but like other breeds, they too are prone to certain health conditions. Does not mean that all of them necessarily have these health conditions, but if you are considering this breed, it's important that you know about the issues that may occur.  Ear infections: This problem is a very common because their ears are floppy, which trap moisture. To avoid this, it is advisable to check and clean their ears regularly.  Hip dysplasia: Though it is said to be an inherited condition, but sometimes it is also triggered by malnutrition. With this condition, the thigh bone doesn't fit snugly into the hip joint. A certain way to diagnose this problem is x-ray screening because some dogs don't show any signs of outward discomfort, while some show pain in rear legs. Either way, arthritis can develop as the dog ages. Dogs with this particular condition should not be bred - So if you are buying a Goldendoodle puppy, make sure to buy it from reputed Goldendoodle breeder or ask the breeder for the proof that parents have been tested for hip dysplasia and other problems.  Allergies: Allergies are very common in dogs, and Goldendoodle is no exception. Typically, there are three types of allergies: oFood allergies: This can be treated by eliminating certain foods from the dog’s diet. oContact allergies: These are caused by reaction to a topical substance such as dog shampoos, flea powder, or other chemical substances. oInhalant allergies: These are caused by airborne allergens such as dust, pollens, and mildew. Treatment varies according to the cause and may include dietary restrictions and medications.  Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus: This is the life threatening condition which is also known as bloat. This condition generally affects large, deep chested dogs such as goldendoodles. Bloat is more common among older dogs, and is especially true if your dog is fed with one large meal a day, drinks rapidly and drinks lots of water after meals, and exercises vigorously after eating. GDV occurs when stomach is distended with air or gas and then twists. If this happens, your dog can even die without immediate medical attention. Suspect bloat if your dog is salivating excessively and retching without throwing up. He may also be weak, lethargic, restless, and depressed with a rapid heart rate. It is important to get your dog to the vet as soon as these signs appear.
