Biography • Born in Rutherford New Jersey in 1883 • Started writing poetry in high school • Met Ezra Pound, who arranged for his poems to be published in England • Made his money as a doctor • Was an important poet for the Imagist movement • Disagreed with T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound, felt they were to attached to European culture • Enjoyed writing about everyday people and circumstances • Gained popularity in the 50s and 60s • Died in 1963 at 80 due to heart problems

  3. Style • Used very common and everyday language to connect to the people he wrote about • He used allusions to foreign languages, religion, and art • Tried to create his own unique style of poetry

  5. Influences • He was influenced by Ezra Pound and Charles Demuth during college

  6. Famous Works • Some of William Carlos Williams’ most famous works are “This is Just to Say” and “The Red Wheelbarrow”
