  2. Charlie woke up on the 26th of January and got ready for school like any other day. He walked down stairs for breakfast and his mother was baking. It was a very unusual site to see his mother baking on a school morning especially when Charlie was already running late.

  3. Lamington When his mother looked up she laughed at Charlie and explained “today is Australia day!” “Charlie asked what does that mean?” Charlies mother said “Today is a public holiday which means you don’t have any school today, today is the day that we celebrate our country Australia and being Australian.” “How do we do that?” asked Charlie “We are going to a BBQ at your Aunty Kate’s place, I am making lamingtons there will also be fireworks later on.”

  4. “Why do we celebrate Australia day mum?” Charlies mum walked over to the bookshelf and found a book on Australia she turned to the page that said Australia day and handed the book to Charlie. Charlie read that Australia day is celebrated on the 26th of January as this is the Anniversary of the first fleet arriving. He also read that a lot of people become citizens on this day.
