Cirque De Chine Shanghai Artists’ Performance and Exhibition Week The smoky Mountain Palace in Sevierville(formerly Governor’s Palace) has been named the only U.S office of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circle*. Frequent culture exchange project will be initiated from August 8th, the opening of 2009 Shanghai Artist’s performance and Exhibition week. On the stage of the theater, the national ranked artists from China will show the United States their brilliant talents. *Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles include Writers' Union, Dramatists Association, Musicians Union, Artists' Association, Film Association, Press Photographers Association, Dancers Association, Calligraphers' Association, Ballad Singers Association, Society for the Study of Folk Literature and Art, Acrobats Association, Television Artists Association, Translators' Association, and Performers’ Association in Shanghai. All the subordinates bring the total membership to about 14,000

Great Chinese landscape Painter --- Jiafang Wang • Born in Shanghai in 1959 • Graduated with master’s degree from Department of Fine Art in East China Normal University • Now works as the chairman of the artist association of Bao Steel. • Mr. Wang absorbed both traditional painting skills and pedantic rules in systematic study. Displaying the original beauty of nature and release the emotion of the painter is his eternal theme. His painting features grand compositions and magnificent atmosphere --- strong mountains from an overlooking perspective and mild clouds, indicating the magnificent, vigorous, vast scenery and show great ambition in life. • Jiafang Wang also inherited the Shanghai culture spirit into his works. He adds abstract, composition, texture and other western painting skills into his works, weakens the overwhelming ancient atmosphere and life-like feeling, skillfully turn technique to concept. His work, focused on both study and rediscovery of the traditional landscape painting, reflects his study of productive thinking and painting growing mature on the academic level.

Kun Opera* Queen--- Haohao Gu • a national Class-A Kun Opera performer • a member of Shanghai Dramatists Association and Shanghai Youth Federation • works in Shanghai Performers United Council, Shanghai Writers and Artists United • a mentor of Shanghai College Students Guiding Agency • Haohao Gu was the leading performer in many traditional opera highlights. She also stared in many blockbusters, such as Bao Lian Deng (Lotus Lantern), Xi Music Opera Qing She (Green Snake), Beijing Opera Sheng Si Jie (Boundary of Life and Death) and Bai She Zhuan (The Story of White Snake). At the same time, she made distinguished performances in new historical drama Sima Xiangru, Ban Zhao. *Kun Opera boasts a 600-year history and is known as the "teacher" or "mother" of a hundred operas in China, including Beijing Opera. Kun Opera was listed as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001. Its melody or tune is one of the Four Great Characteristic Melodies in Chinese opera

Erhu* New Star --- Ji Wan • Started learning Erhu (two stringed chinese fiddle) at the age of 7 • Graduated with master’s degree from Department of Fine Art in East China Normal University • Still a postgraduate student of Shanghai Conservatory of Music Main Achievements *Erhu art can be traced back to more than a thousand years ago. With only two strings, erhu melody and tune usually presents a sorrowful sensation due to the high skill of the performer. Everlasting Regret, Moonlight on the Pond and other works are known to all throughout China for the sadly beautiful stories hidden behind. Erhu instrument can also display the grand bustling scene such as horse race, which amazed the audience.

Main Achievements • 1997 • The 1st prize with highest score in the Second Children’s Instrument Playing and Dancing Competition of Jiangsu Province • 2005 • The silver medal of Wenhua Artist University Prize, the Folk Instrument Performance Competition held by the Ministry of Culture of China, in youth Erhu group. • 2006 • The Excellent Student Prize by Shanghai Culture Development Foundation. • Attended the performance for the opening ceremony of G6 Summit in Shanghai in June and that of G10 Summit in Xining, Guangxi in November. • 2008 • Collaborated with many foreign musicians and composers in Shanghai International Music Festivals. She won high reputation for her brilliant performance in Germany and Japan.

Brilliant So-na* Player --- Chenyun Hu • Started learning so-na (Chinese Clarinet)from Ying Liu and many other famous so-na performers at the age of 9 • Graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music and was admitted by Shanghai Traditional Orchestra with a top score in 1999. • A young performer of Shanghai Traditional Orchestra and a member of So-na branch of Chinese Musicians Association. • His play features the pure beautiful tone, the vivid exquisite sentiment, and the free easy character, which perfectly expresses all kind of works. Mr. Hu was repeatedly invited to perform in more than 20 countries, such as USA, France, German, Czech, Ireland, and Italy, and soloed in the Shanghai International Music Festival, Prague Spring International Music Festival, 2002 Holland Royal Philips New Year Concert, the 55th PRC foundation celebrating concert of Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C., Milan-Shanghai Friendship Concert, China-Africa Culture Exchange Year, 2007 Taipei Traditional Art Festival, 2008 France Modern Music Festival and many other important shows home and abroad.

Main Achievements • 2001 • So-na concerto Hundreds Birds Worshipping the Phoenix --- the Golden Metal on the 14th Holland World Orchestral Music Festival • 2007 • Shanghai --- golden metal in the first “Feeling Shanghai, Showing China”--- Foreign Composer Writing China Contest of Shanghai Spring International Music Festival • 2008 • Shanghai --- collaborated with Orchestre National de France, performed on the stage of 2008 France Modern Music Festival. • The modern multi-media concert Magpie --- collaborated with the famous composer Nicolas Frize, won high reputation *So-na, an important instrument in the folk music of northern China,is believed to have been introduced from Central Asia, for there exists a picture of a musician playing an instrument very similar to a so-na shown on a Silk Road religious monument in western Xinjiang province dated to the 3rd to 5th centuries. It has a distinctively loud and high-pitched sound, and is used frequently in Chinese traditional music ensembles, particularly those that perform outdoors, such as life on horseback, festival and military purposes.
