    1. WORLDLINESS IN THE CHURCH James 4:1-3

    2. “Where do wars and fights come from among you?” (James 4:1) What is the source? “Wars” “Wars and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6). “Denotes strife, quarrels or disputes.” “Fights” “Contention” – “strife”

    3. “Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?” (James 4:1) The source? “desires ” “lusts” “Desires contrary to God’s word.”

    4. Titus 3:3 “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hatful and hating one another.”

    5. James 1:13-15 “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

    6. “Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?” (James 4:1) “War in your members” Members of physical body.

    7. 1 Peter 2:11 “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.”

    8. 1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life; is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

    9. “You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.” (James 4:2) A vicious circle. “Yet you do not have.” Never be satisfied. The inner man can never be satisfied with worldly pleasure.

    10. Eccl. 2:10-11 “Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done and on the labor in which I had toiled; and indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.”

    11. “You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.” (James 4:2) “Yet you do not have because you do not ask.”

    12. Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

    13. James 1:6-7 “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.”

    14. 1 John 5:14 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

    15. “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” (James 4:3) “Amiss” “Bad – evil.” Motive.

    16. “Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
