  4. Barriers to Communication • Regional disparities • legislation not uniform • no groups in some areas • groups have different affiliations

  5. Current Resources • AIHA National • membership < 5% Canadian • no ties in 2 provinces • indirect route for communication

  6. Current Resources • CRBOH • national body • represent about 1/3 of the group • goals are different than MB

  7. Current Resources • Regional OH groups • contacts casual at best • yearly turnover • approximately 1100 members

  8. Options continue as is or establish some structure

  9. Why structure? • makes roles and goals clear • allows continuity • experience shows need

  10. What type of structure? Virtually all organizations work on a “board centered” model • Two types • Hierarchical • Affiliate

  12. Board Centered Models Hierarchical • control is central • works best when Board established first • may not reflect regions

  14. Board Centered Models Affiliate • groups autonomous • board looks at common issues • each region/group has 1 representative

  15. Considerations • Intention for group • many possibilities • initial - simple

  16. Considerations • Resources • limited • group needs to meet once a year - conference? • representatives not limited to executive

  17. Considerations • Involvement • regions take lead role • board need not be exclusive of others • participants vs partners

  18. Actions • meeting of group representatives • promotion by members • consider other groups
