Certain features are often removed from cPanel & WHM in order to ensure the best user experience.   3. Introduction • At times certain features are removed from cPanel & WHM in order to ensure the best user experience. Usually, advance notice is provided of such deprecations or removals. • cPanel & WHM refers to a tools’ suite that is meant for Linux operating system for automating web hosting tasks by using a simple GUI (Graphical User Interface). Web hosting is the service that ensures uninterrupted website accessibility. It can be of many types such as shared, VPS, dedicated, reseller, cloud, WordPress etc. The “Best Web Hosting Company”, the “Best Cloud Hosting Company”, the “Best Windows Hosting Company” all such web hosting companies offer excellent web hosting services which ensure high uptime, high speed and secure hosting.

Terminology The below-mentioned terminology is used to describe features that are supposed to be removed from cPanel & WHM. • Deprecated- Such features are no longer recommended and are planned to be removed from cPanel & WHM. Since active development has stopped on these features, future bug fixes are usually not provided. The user needs to update the customizations on his server, which use or depend on such features. This needs to be done as soon as possible. • Removed- Such features have been removed from the codebase of cPanel & WHM. Hence, the bugs related to these won’t be fixed. Usually, such features are rendered unusable. Those customizations on a server that keep on using or depending on such features will encounter issues. Let us mention in the following slides those features that have been deprecated or removed from the recent cPanel & WHM versions.

  5. MySQL® 5.5 Removed- Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 11.52. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 80. The recommended action for it is to update your local MySQL servers as well as your remote MySQL servers for the use of one of the following: • MySQL 5.6 or later • MariaDB

  6. SquirrelMail • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 76. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 78. The recommended action for it is to use Horde or Roundcube for Webmail. By default, SquirrelMail is not included in new installations of cPanel & WHM version 76 and the later versions.

  7. XML Output in APIs • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 68. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 74. The recommended action is to use the JSON output format for calling WHM API and cPanel API functions.

  9. The cPanel-Provided Hardened-Kernel Update for the Linux Kernel • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 68. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 72. The recommended action is to use the KernelCare “Extra” Patchset from CloudLinux.

  10. TLS Version 1.0 • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 68. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 72. The recommended action involves using TLS version 1.2 in order to connect to cPanel & WHM via SSL/TLS.

  11. cPAddon Moderation • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 66. The recommended action is to not use the Moderation section of the Manage cPAddons Site Software interface in WHM. WHM >> Home >> cPanel >> Manage cPAddons Site Software • It needs to be mentioned that any cPAddons which are using this feature will continue to function. If moderation gets disabled, then it cannot be reactivated.

  12. Remote Access Hash Interface of WHM • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 64. The recommended action for it is using the Manage API Tokens Interface of WHM. WHM >> Home >> Development >> Manage API Tokens • The use of this interface, as well as this interface itself, won’t change on existing servers. On new installations with regard to cPanel & WHM version 72 and the later versions, the Allow deprecated WHM accesshash authentication setting in the Security section of the Tweak Settings interface of WHM has been disabled. This has been done to prevent new use. WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings

  13. cPAddons - WordPress (Legacy) • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 64. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 70. The recommended action involves using the RPM-based WordPress installation package of cPAddons. Those servers that run cPanel & WHM version 64 or the versions that are newer than it, install this package automatically. • It needs to be mentioned that the RPM-based WordPress cPAddon is displayed as WordPress by the Install cPAddons Site Software interface of WHM. WHM >> Home >> Install cPAddons Site Software • The script, /scripts/migrate_legacy_wordpress_to_modern_wordpress needs to be used for converting legacy WordPress cPAddon installations to the RPM-based WordPress CPAddon.

  14. Simple Zone Editor Interface of cPanel • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 62. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 70. The recommended action in this case is using the Zone Editor interface of cPanel. cPanel >> Home >> Domains >> Zone Editor

  15. Internal Perl 5.24 • Removed in cPanel & WHM version 70. The recommended action is updating all third-party applications. This ensures that these are all compatible with Perl 5.26 and later.

  16. AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) • Removed in cPanel & WHM version 70. The recommended action is to use any other contact method that is available.

  17. MySQL 5.1 and Earlier • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 60. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 62. The recommended action involves updating the servers so that these can use MySQL 5.5 or higher or MariaDB.

  18. CGI Center Interface of cPanel • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 60. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 64. The recommended action is removing the CGI applications from your active cPanel accounts.

  19. Earlier Versions of ImageMagick • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 58. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 62. The recommended action involves updating those scripts that use ImageMagick to use GD. Scripts that use ImageMagick need to be updated to use that version of ImageMagick which ships with the operating system.

  20. cPanel's x3 Theme • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 11.52. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 60. The recommended action involves updating all the cPanel accounts of the servers to use the new default cPanel theme. Custom cPanel plugins as well as customized cPanel interface need to be updated to use the new theme.

  21. CentOS 5, CloudLinux 5, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 56. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 58. The recommended action is upgrading the servers to the new version of the operating system.

  22. Stunnel • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 11.32. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 58. There is no recommended action in this case because NativeSSL support is included in cPanel & WHM.

  23. Ability to Customize cPanel & WHM Ports • Removed in cPanel & WHM version 58. The recommended action has to do with using the default secure ports for cPanel (2083) and WHM (2087).

  24. The LANG Localization System • Deprecated in cPanel & WHM version 11.26. Removed in cPanel & WHM version 82. The recommended action is updating custom translations of interfaces of cPanel or WHM and custom plugins to use the locale.maketext system
