  3. Introduction • The information contained here is regarding the different system user accounts that the cPanel & WHM server contains. Various functions, which include managing services, are performed by these accounts. • cPanel & WHM is a suite of tools that is built for the Linux operating system for enabling the automation of web hosting tasks through a simple graphical user interface. Web hosting is a service that is provided by web hosting companies for making websites accessible over the Internet. The “Top Cloud Hosting Company”, the “Best Linux Shared Hosting Company”, the “Best Windows Dedicated Hosting Company”, etc. are some of the terms that are used for the most popular web hosting companies. • The following slides will have the accounts and their descriptions.

  4. Accounts • clamav – The ClamAV anti-virus plugin is managed by this user. • cpanel - Various cPanel services are managed by this user. • cpanelanalytics – The service of cPanel Analytics on the server is managed by this user.

Accounts (Continued) • cpanelcabcache– The local CA (Certificate Authority) cache for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is managed by this user. • cpanelconnecttrack – The Passive OS fingerprinting (p0f) system is managed by this user. • cpanellogin – The logins to the cPanel interface are managed by this user.

  6. Accounts (Continued I) • cpaneleximfilter – Mails’ filtering in the Exim mail server is managed by this user. • cpaneleximscanner – Outbound mails’ scanning by Apache SpamAssassin is managed by this user. • cpanelhorde – Horde webmail processes are managed by this user.

  9. Accounts (Continued III) • cpanelrrdtool – The Round Robin DNS requests are managed by this user. • cpanelsolr– Apache Solr requests are managed by this user. • dovecot – The Dovecot mail service is managed by this user.

  10. Accounts (Continued IV) • nobody – Various script requests are handled by this unprivileged user. • root – The operating system’s root user.
