  1. What are AutoConfig and Autodiscover services? In a nutshell, AutoConfigure (AutoConfig) and Autodiscover are services that aid in configuring quickly and easily the mail client of a user for receiving his/her cPanel emails. These services work with Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, and most of the other popular mail clients. It needs to be mentioned here that the Autodiscover feature won’t work with the email addresses that are added in the following email clients: Microsoft Outlook 2016, Microsoft Outlook 2019, Microsoft Outlook for Office 365, and any mobile email client. How to Enable AutoConfig and Autodiscover The following steps need to be performed for enabling AutoConfig and Autodiscover services: 1.You need to navigate to the Domains section of the TweakSettings interface of WHM. WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings. 2.Locate the Servicesubdomains setting, and select On. 3.Locate the Thunderbird and Outlookautodiscover and autoconfig support setting, and select On. The autoconfig support enables service subdomain and SRV record creation. 4.Click Save. Some Important Information for cPanel & WHM version 76 The following settings are recommended for cPanel & WHM version 76: •The Proxy subdomains setting to Service subdomains. •The Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support.   2. Additional AutoConfig and Autodiscover settings can be found in the Domains section of the Tweak Settings interface of WHM. WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings. The following list contains the additional AutoConfig and Autodiscover settings. •Preferred mail service to configure to use for Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support The purpose of this setting is to enable the user to choose the method for email transfer, to use with Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support. This setting defaults to imap. It is recommended that the user selects IMAP, and not POP3. The user needs to enable the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support option for configuring this setting. •How to publish in the SRV records for Outlook autodiscover support The Autodiscover service of Microsoft Outlook searches DNS for an SRV record for the domain of an email inbox which points to some particular server for Autodiscover. By default, cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net is that server. This setting enables system administrators to carry out the below-mentioned activities. •Selection of the host that the system publishes to the SRV records. •Changing the default host, if it has an SSL-enabled host with an SSL certificate that has been signed by a Certificate Authority. •Using their own server for Outlook Autodiscover. The server’s FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) needs to be entered in the available text box. •When the Host is enabled to publish in the SRV records for Outlook autodiscover support feature, the server that has been specified for the Autodiscover settings is queried by the system. You need to have a custom XML file for the proper functioning of this feature. This setting defaults to cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net You need to enable the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support option for configuring this setting. The use of signed certificates, which have been signed by a CA (Certificate Authority, is recommended. That is because self-signed certificates might create security issues. The browser might generate a warning message when a self-signed certificate is used. Use AutoConfig and Autodiscover You need to enter a cPanel email address and password in your mail client in order to use AutoConfig and Autodiscover. Your mail client will be automatically configured by the services. Apple email clients

  3. The email clients for Apple do not support AutoConfig or Autodiscover for IMAP servers. Your server needs to run Exchange rather than IMAP, in order to use AutoConfig and Autodiscover with Apple products.
