  2. Three ways to Disable Automatic updates Windows 10? There are several things that make it more difficult for us than software updates. Windows users often joke about the updates they get because it's taking so long (yes, you have to initiate the update overnight). Three ways to Disable Automatic updates Windows 10 are below: Option 1: Disable Windows Update service. Windows Update is basically just another Windows service and can be disabled in a similar way to any other service. To turn off automatic updates in Windows 10, do the following: 1. Activate the Run command (Win + R). Type "services.msc" and press Enter. 2. Select the Windows Update service from the list of services. 3. Click the General tab and change the Startup Type to Disabled. If you want to turn automatic updates back on, do the same thing, except that you select Automatic when you select Enable Type.

  3. Option 2: Make a metered connection If you connect your Windows 10 computer to the internet via WiFi, you can set up metered connections. With a metered connection, bandwidth is saved by simply downloading and installing priority updates automatically. To turn off Windows 10 updates: 1. Open the Windows Settings app (Win + I). 2. Click the Network & Internet tab. 3. Open Wi-Fi and click Manage Known Networks. 4. Select the network and under "Properties" switch the option "Set as metering connection" to "On". For some reason, Microsoft only offers this option if you are using a WiFiconnection. If you are connected to the Internet with an Ethernet cable, you will not be able to establish a metered connection.

  4. Option 3: Group Policy Editor You can make changes to the Group Policy Editor if you are using the Education, Pro, or Enterprise editions of Windows 10. Windows 10 Home Edition users have had no luck with this method of disabling Windows 10 updates. If you choose this solution, security updates will still be installed automatically. All other updates will be notified that they are available and you can install them for your convenience. This is how Windows updates have worked in the past. To update Group Policy Editor to prevent automatic updates for Windows 10: 1. Run the Run command (Win + R). Type "gpedit.msc" and press Enter to open the Group Policy Editor. 2. See Computer Configuration next to Administrative Templates. 3. Select Windows Components and then Windows Update. • 4. Select the option to the right of "Configure automatic updates". • 5. Select the option "Download notifications and automatic installation". • 6. Click "Apply" and "OK".

  5. 7. Type Windows Update from the Start menu and select Windows Update Settings. 8. Restart your computer to complete the Group Policy Editor update. 9. Check for updates. Windows should let you know when it finds it, but Windows no longer installs automatically. From now on, Windows should notify you that an update is available and it is your responsibility to make sure it is downloaded and installed.
