  3. System Teams – Best Practice Each major plant system is managed by a team typically consisting of: • Systems Engineer • Design Engineer • Maintenance Engineer • Operations personnel • Maintenance personnel • Others, as necessary

  4. System Teams (cont.) • Meets regularly • Develops and maintains a list of important issues • Places issues into correct mechanism (mod, equipment equivalency, T-mod, procedure change or “do nothing”) • Proposes system modifications (and priorities) to management

  5. System Teams (cont.) • Provides scope, proposed installation schedule, and net present value report (for discretionary items) • Ensures resources are focused on issues important to the plant • Enhances stakeholder involvement and sense of ownership • Reduces “abandoned” engineering products

Palo Verde Common Contributors • Effective backlog management due to: • appropriate backlog classification • integrated work prioritization • 3-cycle scheduling • clear organizational roles/responsibilities • Plant-wide scheduling of modifications • Modifications installed on a train-based schedule (A-train, B-train) • Scheduled through completion in all three units

Palo Verde Common Contributors (cont.) • High visibility of Engineering Performance Indicators • Custom CM database contains: • plant modification packages on-line • drawing/drawing change status • design/design basis information • On-line review/approval of design modifications • Desktop availability of documents, drawings, and design bases information
