EU CRISes analysis Prepared in scope of National project: National Information System Supporting Research and Development in the Slovak Republic – Access to Electronic Information Resources (NISPEZ) Activity 4.1:Enlargement of Central Information Portal for Research, Development and Innovation (CIP RDI) with new functionalities complying with EU standards. It focuses on effective work with project including a connection with other information systems.   4. CRIS analysis - results National CRIS - criteria: • nation-wide focus, • database technology • online data presentation to the public • implementation of web search. Total: 28 countries (EU+Norway) • CRIS: 14 countries • CERIF driven: 9 (Belgium- Flemishregion, Bulgaria, CzechRepublic, Estonia, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden-universitysystem) ? • R&D Portal: 11 countries • 9 countries do not operate either the CRIS or any R&D portal National Information System Supporting Research and Development in the Slovak Republic – Access to Electronic Information Resources (NISPEZ) http://nispez.cvtisr.sk

Conclusion – good CRIS may include (1) • User-friendly entry to the system (main webpage) that contains: • Description of system content • Number of data records in subsystems • Simultaneous search in all subsystems • Rich search criteria with possibilities for retrieval (pop-up menu, faceted navigation...) • Boolean and full text search • Possibility of display all records • Search results can be sorted by importance or frequency of search term • Bilingualism of user interface and data (national and Englishversion) National Information System Supporting Research and Development in the Slovak Republic – Access to Electronic Information Resources (NISPEZ) http://nispez.cvtisr.sk

Conclusion – good CRIS may include(2) • Relevant objects classification, thesaurus implementation • Hypertext link between items - single-click transition to a related item • Graphic information (location of an organisation on the maps, photograph of the expert, collaboration diagram, tag clouds: key words ordered by frequency or by importance • Output generator (define report layout, select of required columns, define searching and sorting criteria) • Data export via web interface.
