Commercial photography - an investment, not a purchase.

Few clients have recently asked me to further elaborate on a detail in my blog post about commercial photography, what exactly did I mean about commercial photography being an investment. <br><br>So basically, even though all photographers use a camera for their work, and all photographers produce photographs with that camera, what makes commercial photography different is the fact that commercial photographs are not the end result that the client pays for, the end result of a commercial photograph is actually the value that this photograph will bring to the clientu2019s business. Which is why it should be looked at as an investment, rather than a purchase.

So basically, even though all photographers use a camera for their work, and all photographers produce photographs with that camera, what makes commercial photography different is the fact that commercial photographs are not the end result that the client pays for, the end result of a commercial photograph is actually the value that this photograph will bring to the client’s business. Which is why it should be looked at as an investment, rather than a purchase.

HOTEL PHOTOGRAPHY IRELAND With any other type of photography, be it weddings, newborns, family, pets, portraits/headshots, sports, event photography, landscape, and whatever else might fit in there, you as a client purchase a bunch of photographs. And that’s where the deal ends, that’s what the end result is. You as a client paid money, and you received a product, a beautiful set of images that portray the subject of your choosing. But the key element here is that the (emotional) value of those photographs is only personal to you, and maybe your family and/or photographer uses their best judgement and technical know how to document your assignment/subject through their unique vision, and hands you the results, the photos. And you simply just hang them on your wall/put in an album/etc after that and (hopefully) admire them for years to come. TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY? team members. The RPA Summer 2020

Commercial Photographer is Justified To Invest Now, whether or not the fee of that specific commercial photographer is justified to invest into is a different story, simply because, like with any other profession, there is a wide range of fee levels out there, catering to a wide range of needs, which is where we are coming back to that very point I laid out at the start - you will have to look at it as an investment. You are not buying a bunch of nice photos of your hotel rooms, for you to hang on the wall and look at, you are investing into a marketing tool that will need to give you a return, so the investment needs to match the possible return, as is with any basic business decision.
