  2. Electrical Engineering Department 1.INTRODUCTION 10 May 2005

  3. Electrical Engineering Department BACKGROUND 10 May 2005

  4. Electrical Engineering Department TYPES OFGENERATOS 10 May 2005

  5. Electrical Engineering Department AlQURRAH POWER PLANTGENERATORS

  6. Electrical Engineering Department Overview • Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries • Rated Speed: 3600 rpm • Number of Phases: 3 • Frequency: 60 Hz • Number of Poles: 2 poles • Voltage Output (nominal): 2 0 kV • Hydrogen Gas Pressure: 4.0 barg • Apparent Power Output: 735,200 kVA • True Power Output: 625,000 kW • Rated Current Output: 21,223 amps • Power Factor: 0.85 • Excitation Voltage: 550 VDC • Hydrogen Gas Volume: 120 m3

  7. Electrical Engineering Department MAJORCOMPONENTS

  8. Electrical Engineering Department Operation process • The magnetic field produced by the stator poles induces a voltage in the rotor (or armature) coils when the generator is rotated. • This induced voltage is represented by a voltage source. • The stator coil has resistance, which is connected in series. • The pole flux is produced by the DC excitation/field current, which is magnetically coupled to the rotor • The field circuit has resistance and a source • The voltage drop on the brushes represented by a battery

  9. Electrical Engineering Department The induced voltage is connected to the generator terminals through the commutator and brushes Safety 1.size 2. circuit breaker 3. qualified electrical contractor 4. NEVER store a generator near a gas water heater or furnace 5.  NEVER fuel an electric generator when the generator is running 6. ALWAYS insure proper ventillation 7.remmember Many engine parts are very HOT during operation

  10. Electrical Engineering Department Performance Characteristics of Generators • No-load characteristics • 2. Terminal characteristic of a DC shunt generator
