  1. ACTIVITY 1 SURVIVOR !

  2. OBJECTIVE • Identify the plant adaptations that provide the best opportunity for survival in a particular environment

  3. DIRECTIONS • Each team has five cards in their SURVIVOR envelope – plant photos & descriptions. • One at a time, you will receive a certain clue - a characteristic of the local environment and you will “vote out” any plant(s) that does not have adaptations for that characteristic – “X” out the plant’s name on your worksheet. • After several clues about the local environment, we’ll see which plant is the SOLE SURVIVOR !

  4. ENVIRONMENT CLUES • IT IS ALWAYS VERY HOT • IT IS ALWAYS VERY DRY • BECAUSE WATER IS SCARCE, ANIMALS HERE OFTEN CHOMP ON PLANTS TO GET THE WATER STORED IN THEM

  7. Scientists do this with fossil plants too If a fossil’s adaptations are similar to modern plants = similar purpose for survival
