  1. October Staff Meeting October 3, 2012

  2. Notes from the RTI visit • She had very positive things to say about the direct instruction models she was able to see during the observation- felt those were being implemented with fidelity • We discussed necessary trainings in Lesson Maps, Corrective Reading, and EIR • Concerns: • Transition times • % of time actively engaged in learning at their seats • Following teacher directions immediately when given

  3. Transition Times • Transition times were anywhere from 3-6 minutes. Sometimes students took 3 minutes to transition for a 2 minute task • Use the 90/10 rule. 90% of the time students should be actively engaged in learning 10% for transition, passing out materials, etc. The data from yesterday was 40/60. • To make efficient use of teaching time students should be in their seats for 75 out of 90 minutes (not on floor)

  4. Active Monitoring • Teacher should be actively monitoring student work. • Effectively and efficiently getting to each student or group to monitor their work closely for errors • Correct errors you see students make • Fluency errors (reading &writing), spelling errors when it is a major focus of a project, problem solving errors: important to catch them so students don’t practice incorrectly • Para(s) in the classroom should be working and actively monitoring students when students are in the classroom not doing busy work

  5. Walk Through Focus • Transition times less than 2 min • Time on task and % of students on task • 90% of the time with 100% of students • Active Monitoring of student work • Overall classroom atmosphere is business like • Students aren’t lounging and they respond to directions immediately
