Setting up you Bellringer • Follow the instructions on how to set up your Bellringer page: • 1. Go to your Google Doc by going to www.sjsd.k12.mo.us/benton • 2. Scroll to the bottom right and under “Cardinals Links” click “SJSD Google Apps for Students” • 3. For “Username” type in your firstname.lastname (Ex: john.smith) and for “Password” type in your last name and id number (Ex: smith12345) • 4. Once you are in, under “Documents,” click on “Create” and select “Document” • 5. Once you have your new document, change the title where it says “Untitled Document” at the top to your first and last name, hour, and BR (Ex: John Smith, 1R, BR) • 6. At the top right click on the blue “Share” button • 7. In the space that says “Add people” type in: elizabethsherwoodwatson@gmail.com the click “Share and Save” and the “Done” • 8. Sit and wait for further instructions
Bellringer • On your blank Google Doc paper complete put the date and the answer to today’s Bellringer. • The word-of-the-week is Delineate. • . To trace the outline of; sketch or trace in outline; represent pictorially (Geography) • 2. To portray in words; describe or outline with precision (Communication Arts) For your Bellringer today, use the word delineate in a sentenceusing the Communication Arts definition.
Setting up your Ticket Out • 1. Go back to your Google Docs home. • 2. Click on “Create” and choose “document” • 3. Change the “Untitled Document” to your first and last name, hour, and TO (Ex: John Smith, 1R, TO) • 4. Click on the blue “Share” button at the top right • 5. Share your document just as you did before with: elizabethsherwoodwatson@gmail.com
Setting up your Notetaking • 1. To set up your notetaking page for the year go to: www.myschoolnotebook.com • 2. Click on “register” • 3. Complete the registration form • 4. Click on “new notebook” • 5. Title the notebook “Communication Arts Unit 1” and my name under “teacher’s name” • 6. Click on “ Add a new topic” type in Point of View • 7. Click on “Add a lesson,” and type the following notes…

Mini Lesson-POV • 1st person • I, me, my, we, our • Story is told from the main character’s POV • Benefits-readers see events from the perspective of an important character. Readers often understand the main character better. • Drawback-readers only see one characters POV.
Mini Lesson-POV • 2nd person • You, your, yours, yourself • Very rare • Uses “you” and presents command • Often the narrator is speaking to him/herself
Mini Lesson-POV • 3rd person-Omniscient • All-knowing. The narrator can see into the minds of all characters. • Godlike narrator; he/she can enter narrator’s minds and know everything that is going on; past, present, and future. • May be a narrator outside the text.
Mini Lesson-POV • 3rd person-Limited Omniscient • Narrator can see into ONE character’s mind. • All characters have “thought privacy” except one. • Benefit-Gives the impression that we are very close to the mind of that one character, even though we’re viewing it from a distance. • Drawback-Sometimes this narrator can be too focused and may impose his/her own opinion with no grounds.
Mini Lesson-POV • 3rd person-Objective • Narrator can only describe and does not enter characters’ thoughts. • Like a video camera, the narrator reports what happens and what the characters are saying. • The narrator adds no comment about how the characters are feeling.

Setting up your reading blog • 1. Go to: www.sjsdblogs.com • 2. Scroll down to the bottom right under “Meta” and select log in. • 3. Log in using the same username & password you use to log on to your computer. • 4. Click on “Dashboard” arrow, then “My Sites”, then “Create New Site” • 5. Under “Site Name,” type in your first initial and last name. (Ex: ewatson) • Under “Site Title” you can call your site anything you want. BE RESPONSIBLE. Think about your digital footprint. • Privacy = Yes • Language = English • Human Verification = select all the cats • Click “Create Site”
Creating a Reading Response • 1. Go back to your “Dashboard” • 2. Under “Posts” click “Add New” • 3. For the title put the book title (remember to properly capitalize), the pages you read, and the book’s Lexile. • 4. Answer the response question. • Describe the setting’s (location) time and place. Discuss the clues that helped you identify the setting. Be specific and detailed. Your Response should be at least two paragraphs long. • 5. When you are finished typing your response click the blue “Publish” button on the right.
