  2.  There is no dearth of tourist attractions in Hong Kong. From modern architectural marvels to scenic nature spots there is plenty that mesmerizes tourists.  But one place that truly completes your tour of Hong Kong and provides rejuvenation is the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery.  Nestled amidst lush green mountains, the Po Lin monastery and the Big Buddha statue are situated in a calm and serene atmosphere.  Visiting this place makes you forget the chaotic outer world and provides much-needed calmness and peace.

  3.  The Po Lin Buddhist Monastery and temple complex was constructed in 1924 and is regarded highly by monks who visit this place in massive numbers every year.  This monastery is Hong Kong’s most important Buddhist sanctums. It is also touted as the ‘Buddhist World in the South’.  But the big draw of this place is the gigantic statue of Lord Buddha. This 23-meter high statue of Buddha, known as the ‘Tian Tan Buddha statue’ was erected in 1993.  This statue attracts thousands of tourists and it has made this place a must-visit destination during Hong Kong vacation.

  4. How to go to The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery? The easiest and the most popular way of reaching the Big Buddha statue is to use the MTR (subway) and get down at Tung Chung Station. At the station, you have to take Exit B and choose one of these options-  Take a cable car– The Ngong Ping 360 cable car is just a block away from the station. You can reach the cable car by walking. This cable car takes you to the Ngong Ping Village. From here on you can walk and reach the Big Buddha statue in ten minutes.  By Bus- From Exit B, walk to the Tung Chung Town Centre. Catch the New Lantao Bus 23 and after a journey of 45 minutes, you will reach your destination from where you have to walk for another ten minutes to reach the Big Buddha statue.

  5. What to do at the Po Lin Monastery?  There is plenty to see and experience at this place. The Po Lin Monastery has a mesmerizing architecture which is visually appealing.  You can spend time gawking at this rich and colorful place of worship and can also watch the stunning manifestations of Buddhist iconography.

  6.  This monastery also features a lively garden. It has birdsong and flowery scents that keep you engrossed.  But most of your time would be spent at experiencing the charm and aura of the gigantic Buddha statue. You have to climb 268 steps to watch this marvel from close and you won’t be disappointed.  The facial details of this statue are extremely precise with the lips and the eyes reflecting perfection while the incline of the head and right hand which is raised and is delivering the blessing to all is a reflection of a true masterpiece.
