  1. Science Projects Science projects grades will count as 4 daily grades and also 1 project grade. All preAP students must present a digital project in class but not all will be invited to the campus science fair. If you are invited to the campus science fair, you will need to create a presentation board and will be rewarded with 400 extra points.

  2. 1st homework grade – Due Tuesday Oct. 15 Question – Contact Mr. Chase to get your question approved. • A good question requires an experiment to answer. • A bad question is one that can be answered with research. Examples: Are Hot Wheels toy cars faster than Matchbox toy cars? Do heavier paper airplanes fly farther than light paper airplanes? Do Styrofoam cups insulate drinks better than paper cups or metal cups? How many people fear the unknown?

  3. 2nd homework grade – due Thursday Oct. 17 Hypothesis – Write your hypothesis on a sheet of paper with your name(s), period, and date. • A hypothesis is one sentence using the words If, then, because. Example: If I roll Hot Wheels cars and Matchbox cars down the same ramp 10 times, then the Hot Wheels cars will have a faster speed because their wheels are wider.

  4. 3rd homework grade – due Monday Oct. 21 • Materials – Write a list of all materials you will use before, during, and after the experiment on a sheet of paper with your name(s), period, and date.

  5. 4th homework grade – due Wednesday Oct. 23 Procedures – Write a detailed step-by-step set of instructions to perform the experiment. • The instructions need to be detailed so that someone else can perform the experiment.

  6. Perform the experiment and collect data • Take a lot of pictures – use at least 4 of them in your presentation. • Write everything down. • Turn the results into a graph, table, or diagram.

  7. Present to the class – Tuesday Oct. 29 • Everyone will present. • This will count as a test grade. • The best projects in each category will be invited to Science Fair. Your presentation should include • Question • Hypothesis • Brief background information • Materials • Procedures • Variables • Results (include charts, tables, or graphs) • Conclusion • Real world application • Sources
