  6. What is a joint and how does it affect a bone? A 200

  7. Joint is a place in the body where two bones come together. They allow bones to move in different ways. Immovable and Movable Joints A 200

  8. Describe the difference between moveable and immovable joints. Provide an example of each. A 300

  9. Movable joint- allow the body to make a wide range of movements. Ex: Hinge joint, Ball and socket joint, pivot join & gliding joint. Immovable Joint- provide little to no movement. Ex: Bones of the skull. A 300

  10. What are bones? Describe bone structure, strength and growth. A 400

  11. Bones are complex living structures that undergo growth and development. Bones contain blood vessels, marrow, tissue, and nerves. Bone strength is strong and lightweight. Bones are alive and continue to grow and develop. A 400

  12. Name and describe all of the functions of the skeletal system. A 500

  13. Shape & Support Enable you to move Protects your organs Produce blood cells Stores minerals and other materials. A 500

  14. What is a Vertebrae? B 100

  15. 26 small bones in your back which make up your backbone. B 100

  16. Name and describe the two types of connective tissue in joints. B 200

  17. Ligaments- Bones in movable joints are held together Cartilage- 2nd type of connective tissue which covers the ends of bones. (Cushion) B 200

  18. Describe the difference between Voluntary and Involuntary Muscles. Provide one example of each. B 300

  19. Voluntary muscles are muscles you can control. Skeletal Muscle Involuntary muscles are not in your control. Smooth & Cardiac Muscles B 300

  20. What holds skeletal muscles together? B 400

  21. Tendons B 400

  22. What is the difference between a pore and follicle? Where do you find them? B 500

  23. Pore-Openings in the skin. Epidermis Follicle- Strands of hair found within the dermis. B 500

  24. Name the three types of Muscles. C 100

  25. Skeletal or striated muscle Smooth Muscle Cardiac Muscle C 100

  26. Describe how Muscles work in pairs. C 200

  27. C 200

  28. How many muscles are in your body? Are most muscles voluntary or involuntary? C 300

  29. About 600 muscles. Majority of muscles are voluntary muscles. C 300

  30. DAILY DOUBLE DAILY DOUBLE Place A Wager C 400

  31. Why is Muscle strength important? Why is the Cardiac muscle especially important? C 400

  32. C 400

  33. Describe the three types of Muscles. C 500

  34. Skeletal or Striated muscle-attached to the bones of your muscle and provides the force that moves your bones. Smooth Muscle- Inside of many internal organs. Work automatically to control movements inside your body. Cardiac Muscle- Found in your heart. Some characteristics of both smooth and skeletal muscle. Involuntary muscle. C 500

  35. What is the largest organ in your body? D 100

  36. The skin D 100

  37. Name the two parts of the skin? D 200

  38. Epidermis and Dermis D 200

  39. What is Melanin? Why does it differ in different people? D 300

  40. Melanin-Pigment, or colored substance, that gives skin its color. Exposure to sunlight stimulates the skin to make more melanin. Melanin production helps protect the skin from burning. D 300

  41. Describe both layers of the skin. D 400

  42. Epidermis-outer layer of the skin. Dead skin cells found here. Skin cells start at the bottom of the epidermis and slowly move to surface. New skin cells push the dead ones to the surface. Dermis-Inner layer of the skin. Blood cells, nerves, follicles, etc. found here. D 400

  43. Name and describe the major functions of the skin D 500

  44. Protecting the body. Maintaining temperature. Eliminating wastes Gathering information. Producing Vitamin D. D 500
