LOW RISK • One or more of the following may be applicable: • No controlled emissions to air from specialist filtration or extraction units • No discharges to water except normal sewage and low-level trade discharges • No use of large quantities of rare natural materials • Only domestic or trade waste, possibly including small quantities of “special waste” such as oil. • Not located in an environmentally sensitive area • Does not give advice on, or regulate environmental issues Hotels, stockists, office-based organisations and most equipment manufacturers are examples of organizations/activities in the low risk category.

  9. LOW RISK

  10. MEDIUM RISK • One or more of the following may be applicable: • Waste produced needs specialist disposal methods • Storage of large volumes of liquids such as oil, diesel or chemicals • Use of large amounts of rare resources such as hard wood or peat • Use of large volumes of chemicals likely to cause damage if released (e.g. solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, milk, sugar) • Air emissions controlled by extraction systems with filters that are monitored • Monitoring or testing of water discharges limited by volume, pH or metal content • Provide environmental advice or enforce regulations • Based in an environmentally sensitive area. If allowed to enter the atmosphere, water or land without treatment or control; this may be because of potentially high volume or the toxicity even in low quantities; • The impact due to the nature of the work done, e.g. digging cross country pipelines, giving planning permission for large scale developments. Large scale chemical works, tanneries, large scale forestry, waste incineration and foundries are examples of organizations/activities in the high risk category.
